Seeking the True God

Testimony by: Ta, from Pursat province, Western Cambodia

Ta prayed to give thanks to the Lord and when he was prayed, the word of God came to Ta.  The word was very precise.  God said to Ta, “I will lead you to a man who is seeking the true God. His name is ‘Lot’”.   Ta knew that God would show him who the man was.  So, a few weeks ago he went to work in his rice field planting rice.  He saw a man working in another rice field and God spoke to him, “That’s him.”  Immediately, Ta left his planting and made his way over to the other man’s field.  He knew the man from around the village, but did not know him well, or even his name.  As Ta approached, he had little small talk.  He simply said, “Lot, I know you are seeking the true God.  I’ll tell you about him.”

The man was shocked that Ta knew his name.  Actually Cambodia is a country which rarely uses names and out of respect in their culture, they refer to people by their age or title.  Most people speak to each other by simply using the words “brother” or “uncle” or “grandmother”.  However, Ta was given the name of the man from God.  Another reason that people do not use names is that they believe if you know a person’s true name, you would be able to cast a spell on them or curse them using witchcraft.  For most rural people, names are a heavily guarded secret.

Lot, surprised that Ta knew his name, immediately stopped what he was doing.  Ta continued by saying,  “You need to come and worship the true God, Jesus Christ, with me.”  Immediately, Lot went with Ta to his home where Ta explained to him about Jesus Christ.  Lot believed in Jesus and has been worshipping in the church since that day.
